Carolina Rapids Expands to Cabarrus County

Carolina Rapids Expands to Cabarrus County
Monday, May 1 2017

Since 1987, Carolina Rapids Soccer Club has provided our community with a unique soccer experience that provides the best possible soccer environment for our members.  Traditionally, the club’s community of North Mecklenburg (Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville) have represented the vast majority of our members.  As we’ve grown over the years, so has our community and membership base.  With close to 4500 members, our players come from all over now, Concord, Kannapolis, Hickory, Charlotte, Mooresville, Statesville etc.

In fall 2011, due to popular demand, we started a recreation program in Denver, NC for the first time.  This recreation program has thrived over the years.  In Fall 2016, we introduced the Rapids’ highly respected Youth Academy. Entering 2017, we will now introduce our first U11 and up Juniors teams.

In fall 2014, we started a recreation program in South Charlotte - again due to popular demand.  In the  Fall 2015, Carolina Rapids offered a full competitive program.  Beginning with just 3 teams, the program grew to 6 teams this past year.  Again there is continue expected growth for this coming year.

Why South Charlotte and Denver?  Quite simply, we have developed a very unique professionalized youth soccer club that offers a specific philosophy and curriculum aimed at increasing and improving the overall soccer experience for the player.  The Rapids Curriculum is proven to develop players at all levels and our teaching methodology is widely accepted as being a cognitive-oriented teaching method that is player centered.   As demand has dictated, we are happy to expand to new locations and provide this experience to a larger community of players.

The interest in the Rapids programming has continued to evolve across the greater Charlotte area and, starting this coming fall 2017, we will introduce programming in a new location – Cabarrus County.   Our initial programming will include U11 – U14 age groups for this coming fall 2017.

In conjunction with this new expansion, we are extremely excited to announce the hiring of Liam Shannon as Coaching Director to oversee Carolina Rapids – Cabarrus.  Liam will start immediately in his new role.

Liam stated: “I am tremendously excited and grateful for this opportunity. I have always had great relationships with the Rapids organization and the Rapids staff, fundamentally because we share the same values and philosophies. Assisting the Rapids in this endeavor means that we are creating player-pools and player-pathways that would otherwise not be available. If we are true to our message of putting players first then this is essential.”

“Liam is going to do a great job for the Rapids in Cabarrus.  A proven talent in running programs and a club, Liam will be successful in helping to provide the best possible soccer environment for the community of Cabarrus and beyond, we’re excited that Liam will spearhead our new programming.” Says Executive Director Thomas Finlay.

Join us in welcoming Liam to the Rapids family!
